Girls Dormitory
Life in rural Keyna poses many challenges for young students. Daily hikes to/from school can mean the difference between staying in school or dropping out early. Young girls are particularly vulnerable. Having a dorm where students can reside enables them to focus on learning and not worry about the trek to school or home.
Thanks to a very generous donation from one of our tour participants, whose father was a true advocate for education. and contributions from others, we were able to finance the building of a dormitory for 50 girls at Saint John’s primary school.
Unfortunately the COVID years hit the school hard and the student population dropped dramatically. However the new Anglican bishop and head mistress are committed to rebuilding the school’s population and making it a center of excellence for learning. BEE in Kenya is committed to supporting their efforts.
